I came across this little video today called Build Anything.
Simple and sweet with happy, calming music as I prepare to leave for BrickCon in Seattle on Thursday morning. Many will have already seen it – it is more than a year old – but I just thought I’d share.
It is with deep regret that we must announce that VicLUG wil not participate in the 2011 Victoria Model Railway Show at Cedar Hill Rec Center. Too many members have professional and family commitments that conflict with the show and so we have found it impossible to put together a display this year. This huge update to the game, one of the largest to date will feature a new spider boss, faction classes, capes, character leveling plus a host of changes to items, areas and game mechanics. I’m pretty sure the free to play month will kick in at the same time.
This is due to be released on Tuesday, August 9th. Here is the release notes:

We have been invited to be part of the “preview day” for the BC Day Celebrations 2011 at the Delta Victoria Ocean Pointe Resort this coming Sunday (July 31st) from 1:00 – 6:00 pm.
Come look for us on the water-side of the hotel overlooking the Inner Harbour where we will have our KidBuild bins ready for LEGO-builders of all ages.
In case anyone is interested in a collaborative pirate-themed build here is a little something I have been working on for BrickCon 2011: Port Brick Standard.
The idea is to have many builders converge in one display and build Port Royal or Tortuga or whatever you like. It borrows ideas from things like the Classic-Castle City Standard and Moonbase.
It is still a work in progress but it is far enough along to see what I am trying to do (I hope). Comments and suggestions for improvement are gratefully accepted.
This is short notice, but here you go. VicLUG wholly supports all FLL activities and look forward to participating in future events!

I often cruise the Bricklink catalog page and see what new parts are available. Today I came across a piece found in one of the new Cars sets: a double slope.
I cannot quite tell what it is used for from the illustrations but it looks mighty interesting. It will be especially useful in other colours but we will have to wait and see if it is used again.
The fifth series of the Collectible Minifig line will contain a specifically “Canadian” character.
Hi-resolution pictures are starting to appear of the next series (see: Brothers Brick) and in addition to the much-anticipated gladiator and British Guardsman figures there will be a Canadian lumberjack. Dressed in a plaid shirt and carrying a new printed fallers axe the clincher in his identity as a hoser is the new trucker hat element but this time printed with what is clearly a beaver.
Already the internet is abuzz with people clamouring for a Mountie figure to create brickfilms of “I’m a lumberjack” by Monty Python.
