It is with deep regret that we must announce that VicLUG wil not participate in the 2011 Victoria Model Railway Show at Cedar Hill Rec Center. Too many members have professional and family commitments that conflict with the show and so we have found it impossible to put together a display this year. New Slope
I often cruise the Bricklink catalog page and see what new parts are available. Today I came across a piece found in one of the new Cars sets: a double slope.
I cannot quite tell what it is used for from the illustrations but it looks mighty interesting. It will be especially useful in other colours but we will have to wait and see if it is used again.
Canadian in Next Series of Minifigs
The fifth series of the Collectible Minifig line will contain a specifically “Canadian” character.
Hi-resolution pictures are starting to appear of the next series (see: Brothers Brick) and in addition to the much-anticipated gladiator and British Guardsman figures there will be a Canadian lumberjack. Dressed in a plaid shirt and carrying a new printed fallers axe the clincher in his identity as a hoser is the new trucker hat element but this time printed with what is clearly a beaver.
Already the internet is abuzz with people clamouring for a Mountie figure to create brickfilms of “I’m a lumberjack” by Monty Python.
New “Character Building” clone/compatible brand from UK launches with Doctor Who license

Minifig Madness
Yes, we cannot resist the lure of the newest Collectible Minifig Series 4. Members have scooped a couple of boxes worth from the Uptown Wal-Mart location. Bring your extras (of any series) to the meeting on Saturday and maybe make some trades.
Contact ted(at)viclug(dot)ca for more info.
Upcoming Meeting
For new and current members alike there will be a club meeting on Saturday April 2nd at Rob’s place.
6:30 – 7:00 – meet & greet
7:00 – 8:00 – club business
8:00 – building, playing, just hangin out until we get kicked out.
Please contact ted@viclug.ca if you need directions or more information.
Tillicum Kids!
Robin Sather from Brickville ( www.brickville.ca ) is back for the second year of Tillicum Kids ( www.tillicumkids.com ) and we’re jazzed to be part of it again. There will be the giant Duplo doubledecker bus that will be built over the course of the weekend and then on display all month, a kids creation contest, a kids build area, and a Where’s Waldo street scene designed by us.
It’s free to come check out and should be a lot of fun!

Post-Gottacon
VicLUG was stoked to be part of Gottacon for the 3rd year, and it was the best one yet! We had a speed build, blind build, and kid build stations, as well as our VicWars game which we refined even further this year. Our kid build was a bit different this year, we encouraged convention attendees to title and label their creations, and we had some amazing additions.
Our VicWars game went great, we played maybe 6 games, and came up with lots of new ideas for next year already.
Here’s some videos of the game in action:

Also, check back on this page: www.viclug.ca/vicwars.html for updates on the game. It’s just a text copy of the rules at the writing of this post, but it’ll be more elaborate, with links to all this media and our revised rules from the past convention.
I’d also like to thank Jon New from www.talismanisland.com for providing prizes at the Talisman game I hosted, it’s much appreciated and please check out his site for amazing Talisman resources and info! You can see more on that game in the miscellaneous photo gallery above.
See you guys all next year!
