Welcome to September everyone! It always feels like September is the start of another season of LEGO events for VicLUG. That’s probably because summer is a bit of a break from displays and club meetings. Whatever the reason, we’re back and September is going to be a busy month.
Things are kicking off this weekend with several club members making the trek down to Seattle for BrickCon 2024. This is a fun event and we’ll be posting a few pictures of the builds that folks took down to display.
Today we are also doing a small display and some Great Ball Contraptions at CFB Esquimalt as part of the base’s Formation Fun Day, a chance for navy families both new and old to connect with the community. Many VicLUG members have ties to the CFB Esquimalt community, so this is always a special event for us.
As noted in a previous post, September 15 is the Victoria Train Show in Sidney. This is typically one of the larger displays that VicLUG puts on and it is a chance for us to put down meters of track and run some trains that don’t often get space at other events. Definitely a favourite with the kids (and those of us still kids-at-heart!).
September 16 will be our monthly club meeting. The meeting particulars can be found in the events calendar.
And finally, the fall Ultimate Toy and Hobby Fair is taking place the weekend of September 21-22, 2024 at Pearkes Arena. As usual, VicLUG will be there with a display, this year a western themed build! So ‘giddy-up’ and we’ll see you there!

The Ultimate Hobby and Toy Fair is back and VicLUG will be there as usual with an Ulitmate LEGO display. This year, our display theme is Space, more specifically: Moonbase. It will be a display that is out of this world!
The fair is taking place May 25-26 at Pearkes Arena. You can find event information and ticket sales at the Ultimate Hobby and Toy Fair website.
See you there!

A rainy forecast for the weekend makes it primetime for indoor activities with the family! Come support VicLUG at a couple of events around town this weekend.
On Saturday and Sunday, VicLUG will be on display at the Ultimate Toy Fair, taking place at Pearkes Arena. Our display will be a spooky Halloween theme and there will also be a mystery live build! October is just around the corner and this is a great opportunity to get into the spirit (or summon the spirit?).
And on Sunday, VicLUG Train Engineers will be at the Victoria Model Railway Show being held at the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney. This will be one of our larger displays of the year, with several loops of track, highlighting various LEGO train themes from over the years. There will be a retro-train loop with engines and rolling stock that are over 55 years old, some 9 volt layouts, the newer Power Functions sets and there will even be a rarely seen, but highly coveted monorail train cruising the rails. Plus so much more!
So grab Grandpa and the kids (Grandma can come too!) and come check out some LEGO this weekend with VicLUG.
Welcome AFOLS from around the world to BrickCan 2023, taking place in Richmond BC this weekend.
Some determined VicLUG members braved bad weather, ferry cancellations, long waits and eventually a bumpy ferry ride to attend this year. Come say ‘hi’ and see what we’ve built for this year’s convention.
We hope you all have a great time!
